Carpet maintenance cleaning e course day 3

Subject: Day 3. Carpet maintenance e course

Hi again Friend
In today’s session, I will be telling you how to clean stairways, stains and spots and traffic areas too. I will also be squeezing in some pics showing you a few additional tools that will help you with your carpet maintenance cleaning.

So, lets get stated with stair cleaning and how to do it thoroughly, For this, you do not need the buffer machine, but you will need to vacuum clean your stairways first. A good tool to use for vacuum cleaning your stairway is the small attachment that comes with most vacuum cleaners. A small T shaped tool that fits onto your vacuum cleaner hose. If you don’t have such a tool, you can pick one up almost any place that sells vacuum cleaners.

This stair cleaning process is simple and easy to do. The tools that you will need are few and cheap. As we all know, stairs do get soiled with time. That soil travels into your bedrooms and your downstairs rooms too. So stair cleaning is essential.

Here’s how to do it;
Starting from the top after you have vacuum cleaned, you use the same process as with cleaning a room with the carpet maintenance system. You use your pressure sprayer with a mix of buff cleaning solution. You also have a 5 litre mix of rinse solution just as before in a bucket. Only this time we don’t need the buffer machine, we simply use a plain white hand towel. We spray onto your stairs one step at a time including the back of the step. We use our plain white hand towel dowsed into the rinse solution and rung out to damp. Fold your towel so that it fits into your hand comfortably. With your hand towel, wipe your step crossways them move onto the next step and repeat.
It’s a simple matter of spray and wipe clean. Keep turning your white hand towel to a clean part each time you clean a step or two. So the sequence is,
Vacuum clean first
Mix your buff cleaning solution and pour into you pressure sprayer
Mix your rinse solution, 5 litres
Dowse your white hand towel into your rinse solution
Spray onto your step both top and back of the step.
Wipe clean your step with your damp white hand towel.
Move onto the next step and repeat.
This is a very simple system for stair cleaning. The idea is to remove soils before they start to show. Clean this way regularly at about every 4-8 week intervals.
Once your done with your spray and wipe all the way to the last step at the bottom of your stairway, you need to set your stair carpet for drying. You do this by rinsing out your hand towel and ringing it out to damp. Then go back to the top of your stairway. Set your carpet pile for quick drying by raising the carpet pile. You do this by simply wiping your step and back of step so that your carpet pile is raised. Set the pile on each step all the way down to the last step. And that’s all you do for stair cleaning with the carpet maintenance system. After you’ve cleaned your stairway a couple of times, you will be more confident. I expect the first time you do it, it may feel awkward. But after your first time, the next time will be familiar to you, hence it gets easier.Next we move onto cleaning stains and spots.
Cleaning stains can take up many pages of text because obviously there are so many different sorts of stain and with it you get so many stain cleaning solutions which are designed for the various stains found in the home.
To go the short rout on this, there is one solution which will be your main stain cleaner. It’s cost effective to do it this way, rather than to invest in all sorts of stain removers when your only doing your own carpets at home. There must be dozens of different solutions available for the various stains found in the home. So, lets cut the list of solutions down to just one. That solution is a multi purpose cleaning solution which will remove most household stains. That solution is available to you through your local cleaning supplies store. The term used is ‘multi purpose carpet cleaning pre-spray solution’.

Prochem who I use for all of my carpet cleaning solutions, they manufacture a solution called Multi-pro. I use it for cleaning stains. spots and traffic areas. It’s a multi purpose carpet cleaning solution and something similar will be available to you at your local cleaning supplies store, just ask.

For removing stains and spots you will need a couple of tools, plus your solution. You will need a nylon hand held scrub brush, This is used for removing stains and spots by rocking the brush on the stain or spot and not by scrubbing it. When you press the brush onto the stain, you simply rock the brush on the stain working from the outside edges of the stain and work your way into the centre of the stain.

If you use the brush to scrub at the stain, the chances of you damaging your carpet fibres is high. The best way to tackle stains is by spraying onto the stain working in from the outside edges of the stain into the centre. Work with your brush by rocking your way round the outside edges of the stain working into the centre of the stain.
You use your multi purpose pre-spray cleaning solution to clean a spot or a stain. When your done, you must neutralise the area with your rinse solution. You do this by dowsing your hand towel into the rinse solution, ring it out to damp and then blot the stain or spot from the outside edges into the centre. This will neutralise the stain cleaning solution. If you fail to neutralise your carpet after removing a stain, you could well loose colour from the area. So we must remember to neutralise any areas were we have been removing stains or spots from.
If you have a troublesome stain that you want to get rid of but find the multi purpose pre-spray solution ineffective, there’s always solutions available. The company I use they have about 25 different stain remover solutions available for the various stains found in the home. The cleaning supplies store you deal with will have similar products available to you. Just ask.
It always helps if you know what the stain is. That way, you can match it up with the right solution. But, the multi purpose pre-spray solution should be all you need.
Cleaning traffic areas,
Again for this cleaning process you use your multi purpose carpet pre-spray solution. When you are buff cleaning your carpet and you can see soiling in certain areas of your carpet. How you can tackle that is by spraying the area with your pre-spray solution. You then use a tool called a carpet pile brush. You simply agitate the pre-spray solution into the soiled areas. Then you can continue buff cleaning with the buffer machine. The buffing pad will automatically neutralise the pre-sprayed area as you buff clean.
There is a symptom in some carpets which is called greying. When your carpet has this problem, you will have an area, usually a high traffic area where, no matter how much you clean, it still looks soiled. This problem is called greying and unfortunately it is not possible to correct it. What has happened is, in the carpet fibres, old soil is locked inside the fibre itself. You can better understand this situation if you compare it to your skin. If left unwashed for awhile the pores in the skin will allow dirt inside. Once there. it is very difficult to remove it. The dirt is locked into the pores of the skin.
The very same thing happens with carpets. The fibre opens and allows soil into the fibre and the soil gets locked in. Hence, it is is not possible to unlock the fibre and remove the soil. It’s called greying and it can be caused by over wetting carpets. It is also a symptom of an ageing carpet too.
Regular carpet maintenance cleaning will eliminate this problem But if you have it already, then cleaning won’t fix it,
Here’s some pics of useful tools for stair, spot and stain cleaning and traffic area cleaning,
A simple nylon hand scrub brush.
You can get this item from almost any hardware store. This particular brush cost just £1,70. You want a nice brush so as to fit nicely into your hand. A brush too big will be hard to work with. You can use the nylon hand scrub brush for stair cleaning, stain and spot removal and for setting stair carpets to dry. A useful item which will help you very much in your carpet cleaning activities.
Carpet pile brush
This brush is used for agitating carpet pre-spray solution into traffic areas. You can also use this brush for setting carpet for drying. You simply set the pile raised.
You will not find a brush like the carpet pile brush anywhere accept at your local cleaning supplies store. You may well need to ask the store to order the item in for you. They are not cheap either. They range in price from about £20 to £30. The better quality brushes are the higher priced ones. It is well worth the investment though. These brushes will help you do better cleaning and it will last for many years.
Multi purpose carpet pre-spray solution.
This pictured product is from Ptochem. Most other pre-sprays work in much the same way. It’s like car manufacturers, all cars are fundamentally the same. They all do the same thing and they all work in much the same way. Carpet pre-spray solutions are no different. They all do the same thing but like car manufacturers, these pre-spray solutions are made by different manufacturers. The solutions are good for stain removal, and cleaning traffic areas. A multi purpose carpet pre-spray solution is well worth having in your collection of carpet cleaning tools and solutions,
1 Litre hand spayer
This item is a 1 litre hand sprayer, ideal for having a mix of pre-spray solution at the ready. You can use this sprayer for removing spots, stains and traffic areas.  Hand spayer cost less than £1 at most hardware stores.
1 lire plastic measuring jug.
Ideal for mixing solutions. Make sure you get one with markings down the jug. You can pick one of these jugs up for less than £1 at most hardware stores.
Plain white hand towels.
2 of these is a good idea. Use them for stair cleaning with the buff cleaning solution. You can also remove stains with these towels. Make sure you get hand towels and not bath towels. The size is important because a bath towel will not fit comfortable in your hand, whereas a hand towel will. You can get plain white hand towels from most supermarkets for about £1 each.
13 litre plastic bucket.
Is used for your rinse solution. Make certain you get a bucket with measure markings. also make sure your bucket has a lip for pouring. You can get a plastic bucket such as this for £1,50 at most supermarkets.
As you can see, these few tools are low cost. But each tool listed will prove to be very worthwhile, not only for your convenience but also in value. You can probably use the items listed over and over for many years. And once you have your collection of tools you can rest assured that you have everything you need to clean your carpets when you want to.

Always open a couple of windows after your have cleaned a carpet. The moisture in the air has to have an escape rout. If not, the moisture will stay in the room and slow drying will be the result.
